- ➤ Hub City Wesley at USM is sponsoring the Wesley Worldwide Wishes tree program to help international students receive Christmas gifts if they cannot return home for the holidays. Participants choose a tag, buy the gift, and drop it off unwrapped at the Wesley Building by December 5 — donations will be accepted until December 1. WDAM
- ➤ Local police and sheriff’s deputies handed out over 350 Thanksgiving food boxes on Friday in Petal to families in need. The event (supported by local churches and volunteers) (a tradition since 1989) brought hope to the community for the holiday season. WDAM
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This weekend from November 21 to 23, a variety of events will take place across Mississippi—ranging from live concerts and wellness retreats to holiday markets and festive family gatherings. In Hattiesburg, residents can enjoy board game night on Friday, a new museum exhibit and whimsical Unbirthday Party on Saturday, and a Sax-Chamber Orchestra performance on Sunday. WJTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Undergraduate students at Millsaps College can now pursue an accelerated law degree at Ole Miss under a new five-year partnership. The memorandum of understanding (lasting five years) allows eligible students to complete a special curriculum, receive fee waivers and participate in a joint lecture series, giving them a faster path to a law degree. - ➤ The Mississippi Department of Human Services announced Friday that full SNAP benefits were issued after a software glitch delayed payments for a week—clients are advised to check their accounts for the updated balance—and December benefits will be issued on time. Mississippi Today

- ➤ An expanded wound healing center now serves patients in Hattiesburg & the facility adds new treatment options to boost care for those with injuries. WDAM
- ➤ Mississippi health officials have found that nearly a quarter of high school students are obese while the CDC reports 14.7 million U.S. children are considered obese. Dr. Jamie Lou Rawls at Sumrall Medical Center urged families to choose balanced meals and spend time exercising together — programs exist to help low-income families shop for healthy foods. WDAM

- ➤ Leake Academy won the MAIS 3A Division I championship when junior kicker Caden Stovall kicked a 29-yard field goal as time expired—giving the Rebels a 25-24 win over Tri-County Academy on November 20 at Raider Stadium.
