EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Mississippi State Board of Education approved new A-F performance level cuts on November 20 that raise grade thresholds for the state accountability system for the 2025-26 school year—using current school grades as a new baseline—so future ratings will be measured against updated standards.  WJTV
  • Millsaps College students can now earn both a bachelor’s and law degree in six years thanks to a new agreement with Ole Miss School of Law — the program offers fee waivers and a joint lecture series, and it will last for five years.  WLBT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kick Glass HBurg is growing its glass recycling program with monthly crush events at Southern Prohibition Brewing and a new curbside pickup service that offers three subscription levels for households and small businesses. Organizers partnering with Glass Half Full and the University of Southern Mississippi’s Office of Sustainability plan to add rotating community dumpsters — a move to make recycling easier for everyone in Hattiesburg.  WDAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eleven first responders from Hattiesburg and nearby communities were honored at the Keesler Federal First Responders of the Year Awards held recently, with Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert and local officials presenting awards – including recognitions for Andrew Klem from Petal Fire and Steven Sturdivant from Stone County – to commend their service. Caitlin Bradshaw said nominations came from peers and were submitted by each department.  WDAM
  • The Mississippi Department of Human Services said an outdated software is delaying full SNAP benefits—recipients scheduled between November 14th and today will receive only up to 65% of their aid while the rest will be issued as soon as possible. The department awarded Deloitte Consulting LLP a contract in May and will complete the upgrades in 2027.  Mississippi Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Members of Camp Shelby’s 177th Armored Brigade took part in the annual Turkey Bowl flag football game at Southern Miss’s M.M. Roberts Stadium yesterday. The non-commissioned officers won 30 to 6 while USM cheerleaders led cheers and players expressed their gratitude for the long-standing partnership—continuing the tradition since 2019.  WDAM
