CULTURE NEWS

  • Southern Miss Theatre Department is presenting The Colored Museum this month as students lead campus audiences through 11 interactive exhibits that use satire to explore African American heritage. Performances will run on Nov. 21—22 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. as the production brings bold scenes and vivid designs to life.  SM2 Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mississippi is facing a deep teacher shortage with nearly 5,160 vacancies for the 2024–2025 school year—this gap is worsened by declining enrollment in teacher preparation programs and low salaries amid rising living costs. Lauren Curry, a senior at the University of Southern Mississippi, said these factors challenge districts to fill roles in critical subjects as experienced educators retire.  SM2 Media
  • The University of Southern Mississippi’s British Studies Program celebrated its 50th anniversary—marked by light refreshments, raffles, and live music by the Mississippi Tornados.   • Pearl River Community College is hosting its 9th Annual Wildcat Wonderland free event today on its Poplarville Campus from 4:30-7:30 p.m. The event features holiday displays from 'Peanuts' and 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas,' train rides, and a chance for children to meet Santa — with more than 6,000 people expected.  WDAM
