COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hattiesburg held a ceremony to honor veterans and their service—local officials and groups attended the event. Leaders praised the sacrifices and contributions of service members and their families.  WDAM

CULTURE NEWS

  • The African American Military History Museum in downtown Hattiesburg is in a building that served as a USO Club for African Americans during World War Two. Director Latoya Norman said the museum features exhibits showing African Americans serving from the Revolutionary War to the War on Terror and is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.  WDAM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the Gulf Coast dropped to an average of $2.51 per gallon for regular fuel on Monday from $2.58 last week—prices fell by about 21 cents since last month and are roughly 17% lower than the national average.  Hattiesburg American

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Knox Academy, a Montessori school in Ellisville that serves 34 children, is raising $150,000 for a new playground with a sports court for daily play — the school will host its Pasta with a Purpose fundraiser on Nov. 21 where every meal supports the effort.  WDAM
  • Most Mississippi public universities saw enrollment grow this fall as overall numbers increased by 2.7% — with more than 81,961 students enrolled — while The W and Delta State recorded significant gains, including a 38% freshman jump. Other schools like Ole Miss and Mississippi State reached record enrollments, though Alcorn State experienced a slight decline.  WLBT
