  • Robin Roberts, co-anchor at Good Morning America, was named InStyle’s Woman of Impact for November. She began her career at WDAM 7 in Hattiesburg in 1983—watching her sister work as a weather forecaster at age 12 sparked her love of journalism.  WDAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Camp Shelby introduced three new races to raise funds for Youth Challenge scholarships. Officials say the races will give local students more opportunities to learn and grow.  WDAM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ole Miss beat Citadel 49-0 on Nov. 8 and will host Florida on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. on ESPN; the game draws extra buzz as Coach Lane Kiffin—rumored as a candidate—remained neutral on job chatter after Florida fired Billy Napier.  Hattiesburg American
  • Mississippi State football quarterback Blake Shapen left the game on November 8 after a hard hit on his blindside against Georgia and was taken to the locker room — he later returned in uniform but did not re-enter the game. This was his second straight game with an injury following an evaluation for a concussion during the Arkansas win on November 1.  Hattiesburg American
  • Southern Miss beat Arkansas State 27-21 on November 8 when backup quarterback Landry Lyddy stepped in after Braylon Braxton’s injury and led two scoring drives. The Golden Eagles defense forced six turnovers—three by defensive back Josh Moten—to help secure the win.  Hattiesburg American
