- ➤ Hattiesburg will name its Veteran of the Year on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, and a parade will start at 10 a.m. from Hardy Street Baptist Church + Brigadier General Robert Crear will speak at the event + traditional honors such as Quilts of Valor will be recognized. - ➤ The Fieldhouse For The Homeless has started accepting donations of coats, jeans, thermals, and long socks as colder weather approaches to help Hattiesburg residents in need; Fieldhouse Manager Katrina Lane said community help is key to maintaining shelter support. Donations are available during normal business hours — from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. — and the shelter welcomes everyone to stop by. WDAM

- ➤ The Hattiesburg Concert Band will perform 'The Colors of Fall' on November 9th at 3 p.m. at the Mannoni Auditorium at USM+ uniting local musicians from high school to retirees and featuring a free tribute to veterans. WDAM
- ➤ The University of Southern Mississippi’s McCain Library and Archives now houses original artworks, drawings and personal items from Curious George creators Hans and Margret Rey. Family members and visitors from around the world celebrated the weeklong opening event (including a documentary and musical) and the exhibit will remain on view until mid-December. SM2 Media

- ➤ Parts of Mississippi will face a severe weather threat Friday as damaging winds, hail and possible tornadoes are forecast along the I-20 corridor while a strong Canadian air mass will bring the season's first hard freeze next week with Hattiesburg expecting lows around 31 degrees. - ➤ The federal government will partially fund SNAP benefits this November amid the ongoing shutdown — about 380,000 Mississippi residents who rely on food stamps may receive reduced payments until the government reopens. The White House said full benefits will resume once the shutdown ends. Hattiesburg American

- ➤ Lifeguard Southern Mississippi has launched a new quarterly two-day training for emergency responders in Lamar County to practice rare high-risk skills—like intubations and needle decompressions—during 911 calls, and officials said Lawrence County and GP Medical Operations will also join the sessions. - ➤ Hattiesburg Zoo provided an update on Sue Ellen—the 25-year-old giraffe with osteoarthritis who received medications, joint supplements, hydrotherapy, and a new sand substrate in her indoor and outdoor enclosures. - ➤ College students use the 44-mile Longleaf Trace—starting behind Century Park North dormitories—to ease stress with exercise and learning about local wildlife. Built as a Rails-to-Trails project in 2000, the trail now gives a safe way to walk from campus to downtown. SM2 Media
- ➤ UMMC closed the Mississippi Horizons Project in July after losing federal funding, ending its telehealth service that treated opioid addiction with buprenorphine and other supports.
