CULTURE NEWS

  • Camp Shelby hosted two celebrations on Tuesday—one marking the National Guard Retiree Day South and one unveiling the new Mississippi Country Music Trail marker for Camp Shelby Country. Grammy-winning Marty Stuart performed as the marker honored the camp's musical legacy and its historical ties to country music.  WDAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks said the system for buying hunting and fishing licenses is having problems during a change in vendors—auto-renewal is off and some users face glitches—and they urged hunters and fishers to buy their licenses soon.  Hattiesburg American

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Tate Reeves unveiled Mississippi’s $500 million plan to boost rural health care over five years starting in 2026 using federal funds — the plan will expand the medical workforce, telehealth and advanced health technology. Every county will join the effort, which is set to be monitored by a third party to track outcomes.  Mississippi Today

  • Hattiesburg wide receiver Davion Young earned Player of the Week for his standout play last game—his strong performance boosted his team’s chances in key moments.  WDAM
  • Marshall Academy football forfeited its playoff game against Washington School by refusing to run plays and received a $7,500 fine along with a ban on hosting future playoff games. Coach Chris Bunio is suspended + fined $1,000, and the team will play at Central Hinds Academy at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 while its appeal is pending.  Hattiesburg American
