- ➤ Hattiesburg native Thelma Knox is calling for volunteers to clean and maintain Gillis-Burkett Cemetery at 1921 James St in Palmers Crossing on Nov. 5 at 8:30 a.m.—the historic site, which holds graves of military veterans and previously enslaved people, has become overgrown as her family has struggled to secure county support since 2018. - ➤ Tuesday night, costumed pets and their owners gathered at Fields of Barktopia Dog Park for Hub City Humane Society’s first Tricks for Treats Halloween event that raised funds for veterinary care and shelter upgrades (the new building still needs electricity, plumbing, and kennels).
