  • Miss Mississippi Anna Leah Jolly visited the Rotary Club of Ellisville on Monday and shared her journey from being an orphan from Ukraine to earning her title in Mississippi. The 24-year-old discussed her community service project (Limitless) that aids foster care children and mentioned her two books on trauma-informed care and emotional intelligence.  WDAM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Maddie Oliphant, the first Black Miss Mississippi Teen USA, is competing in Reno for the national title while promoting literacy with her Maddie’s Little Library — a program that encourages young readers and healthy habits. The 19-year-old from Hickory, a sophomore at Mississippi State studying biological sciences, uses her platform to highlight diversity and inspire change in pageantry.  Hattiesburg American
  • A new mural honoring Gandy was unveiled in Hattiesburg to inspire young women—local officials say it celebrates community strength and encourages future leadership. The artwork is displayed downtown and is expected to become a local cultural highlight.  WDAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jones County School District Transportation Director Keith Braddock said the district is using National School Bus Safety Week to inspect buses (checking lights, tires, mirrors, and safety equipment) on over 130 routes and hold safety meetings at schools. He urged drivers to use extra caution around school buses and mentioned plans to install cameras to further protect students.  WDAM

  • Hattiesburg Zoo is caring for Sue Ellen, its 25-year-old giraffe with osteoarthritis, by using pain management medications and hydrotherapy—ensuring she remains comfortable and continues joining guest feedings.
