  • Historical markers in Hattiesburg honor the Freedom Summer of 1964 and civil rights leader Vernon Dahmer who paid poll taxes for those who could not vote. The 16-stop trail guides visitors to learn how the town fought against laws that stopped many from casting their ballots.  WDAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi's WIC program is serving nearly 70,000 caregivers and children amid the federal shutdown while the state Health Department seeks state funds to keep it open.
