  • A study by the Journal of Consumer Research finds Mississippi drivers spend $3,465 each year on insurance, repairs, and gas—the fourth-highest total in the nation. When compared to median incomes, these expenses take up about 6.4% of earnings (without counting monthly auto loan or lease payments), making car ownership a significant burden.  WJTV

  • University of Southern Mississippi officials announced that private gifts from the USM Foundation and USM Athletic Foundation reached $22 million for the current fiscal year, as reported on Oct 5.  WJTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Steven Fisk won the Sanderson Farms Championship on Sunday, October 5th at the Country Club of Jackson after posting an eight under par 64 with birdies on the final three holes. The tournament, which began as the Magnolia Classic in Hattiesburg and raised funds for local charities over 57 years, may end this year when the sponsor withdraws.  Mississippi Today
