COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Forrest County Board of Supervisors broke ground on two new youth baseball fields at Brooklyn Community Center to give more space to a growing number of players—one field for T-ball and one for children under 10. The $200,000 project is funded by local donors and county support and will be ready for play by spring 2026.  WDAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Hattiesburg will have staggered street closures today to support several events. Lucky Rabbit’s Street Market is closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Food Truck Festival on Mobile Street runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Oktoberfest on Main Street is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hattiesburger Showdown on Forrest Street is from noon to 5 p.m., Buschman Street is closed from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Main and Forrest Streets are closed from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.—the city scheduled the closures.  WDAM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, several high school basketball games were played including North Forrest vs. Collins, Presbyterian Christian vs. St. Patrick, South Jones vs. Long Beach, Sumrall vs. Seminary, and West Jones at Petal—highlights showed key plays and team efforts.  WDAM
  • On October 3, Presbyterian Christian faced St. Patrick in a competitive high school game while North Forrest, South Jones, Sumrall and West Jones also played in contests across the region — each match featured strong local performances. The highlights show a busy day in high school sports that energized teams and fans.  WDAM
