CULTURE NEWS

  • Kayleigh Clark, a 20-year-old native of Sumrall, impressed NBC's The Voice coaches during her Monday audition (Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, Michael Bublé) when she earned turns from all four and chose Niall Horan as her coach.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Hattiesburg Zoo will launch its new Field Trip Adventure that guides students through interactive educational stops—teachers receive treasure maps and color-coded wristbands to enhance their experience, and behind the scenes tours are available for an extra $5 per student.  WJTV
  • The Jones County School District maintained an 'A' rating from the Mississippi Department of Education for the third straight year, reflecting improvements in lesson plans and teacher training—Superintendent B.R. Jones said all students will be supported in reading, writing, arithmetic and recess.  WDAM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Deer Association report shows that 82% of Mississippi's buck harvest were mature—though Oklahoma led with 85%—and state wildlife officials urge hunters to harvest more deer this season using data from both public and private lands. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Department of Transportation said alternating lane closures will occur nightly near the intersection of US 49 and Hardy Street from 7:00 p.m. on September 29 until 6:00 a.m. on October 17 for pavement repairs—drivers are advised to find alternate routes.  WJTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mississippi’s only PGA TOUR event—the 58th Sanderson Farms Championship—will tee off Thursday at 7 a.m. at the Country Club of Jackson and will feature a strong field of local and international players competing for $6 million in prize money amid plans that may mark the final tournament under the current sponsorship.  Mississippi Today
  • Senior Luke Davey from Sacred Heart earned WDAM 7’s Player of the Week honor after recording 23 carries for 236 yards and five touchdowns while adding eight tackles, two forced fumbles and a sack at Wilkinson County High School last Friday—his performance helped extend a four‐game win streak—setting the stage for upcoming region play.  WDAM
