Hattiesburg has installed its first safe haven baby box at Fire Station No.1 to give parents in crisis a secure and anonymous way to surrender infants up to 45 days old — a device funded by private donors with over $15,000.

It is the ninth baby box in Mississippi and sends a silent alarm to alert fire station staff when used.

Zoo Boo will transform the Hattiesburg Zoo this October with over one hundred LED lantern displays featuring witches, ghouls and glowing creatures for a spooky celebration — the event will run from Oct.
