COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Roosevelt State Park in Morton reopened Friday after a $2,620,800 renovation updated cabins with new showers, toilets and more—adding fire pits, grills and ADA accessible units for a better stay. In just three weeks, over 500 nights were booked—showing strong local support for the upgraded park.  WLBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A retired military officer said USM’s Gulf Coast campus could become the Mississippi Maritime Academy— a move to boost training for new Merchant Marine officers and honor Mississippi’s past; the plan will require coordination with university officials, industry partners and state legislators to meet the nation’s mariner needs.  Mississippi Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Forrest County chose Delta Waste Solutions to provide solid-waste collection for unincorporated residents who must enroll to get a trash cart and weekly pickup. Enrollment runs from September 3 to November 14 (available online, by phone, or in person) and cart delivery starts early January with service beginning February 1 (as set by county officials).  WJTV

  • Southern Miss hosts Jackson State at The Rock today as city officials expect 30,000 fans to boost hotel and restaurant revenue—projecting a $6—7 million economic impact with $1.5 million in ticket sales.  WJTV
