- ➤ Mississippi parents Martavius Dean and Inyizia Scott—charged with reckless child abuse resulting in death—face felony charges after their two-year-old boy was fatally shot accidentally on August 7 at 3:30 p.m. in Meridian. WJTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Sept. 3, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court alleging that city officials discriminated against a former Water & Sewer Department employee who complained about sexual harassment by a supervisor and was fired for alleged insubordination. City leaders declined to comment on the pending litigation — the suit details claims of retaliation for reporting the harassment. WDAM
- ➤ Voters in Forrest County will choose between Wes Curry and Tangi Carter on November 4 in a special election to fill the Circuit Court judge seat for Forrest and Perry Counties, with the winner set to be sworn in in January and serve until January 2027. WDAM
- ➤ About 350 residents near Evelyn Gandy Parkway in Forrest County are under a boil water notice as Glendale Utility District is making emergency repairs on a valve on Tillery Drive, which will take six to eight hours—triggering water outages on several streets—and residents must boil water for at least one minute before use.
