  • Becca Hill is organizing a yard sale to launch the Jakob’s Legacy of Love Memorial Fund in memory of her 17-year-old son Jakob Hill, who died last August. The sale will be held on Saturday, Sept 6 at Sumrall High School’s old gym (184 Center Ave.) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and all proceeds will help pay for student extracurricular fees and a high school senior scholarship.  WDAM
  • A yard sale is planned to launch Jakob’s Legacy of Love Memorial Fund to honor a cherished community member; local residents are invited to support the event by purchasing items—helping raise funds to preserve his memory.  WDAM

  • Mayor Toby Barker reported a break in the main waterline today in Hattiesburg—officials are investigating the issue—while crews prepare to restore service.  WDAM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mississippi politicians celebrated workers today over Labor Day but did not expand Medicaid—KFF data shows that only 42.7% of workers had employer-provided health insurance while 10.5% had no coverage. Experts warn that 170,000 Mississippians will lose marketplace insurance when federal subsidies expire later this year if no policy change occurs.  Mississippi Today

  • Jeff Lebby discussed Mississippi State's Week 1 win at Southern Miss and explained Kamario Taylor's key role on offense — noting that his performance will shape the team's future strategies.  Hattiesburg American
  • Mississippi State football beat Southern Miss 34-17 at M. M. Roberts Stadium on August 30 with running back Fluff Bothwell scoring two touchdowns. Five players impressed the crowd including safety Brylan Lanier with a key interception, cornerback Kelley Jones with two pass breakups, defensive tackle Will Whitson with a sack and extra tackles, and kicker Kyle Ferrie who kicked a record 55-yard field goal.  Hattiesburg American
