- ➤ Mississippi alligator hunting season opens on August 29 with steady alligator trends and favorable river water levels reported—officials expect the conditions may lead to new record catches. - ➤ State Auditor Shad White said Mississippi could save over $22 million each year if SNAP benefits banned sugary drinks and candy—more than 357,000 residents rely on SNAP and redirecting funds may also lower Medicaid expenses.
