CRIME NEWS

  • Early Sunday morning, a fatal crash near Lilly and Allen Roads led to an angry crowd assaulting volunteer firefighters—four of whom were injured as law enforcement began searching for the suspects.  WLBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • William Carey University and Howard Technology Solutions signed a partnership on July 22 to offer students a custom curriculum that teaches skills needed by a top Pine Belt employer—training that includes business networking, sales and client service. WCU President Ben Burnett said the program will also let current local professionals update their skills for jobs at Howard Industries.  WDAM
  • Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library gives free monthly books to children from birth to 5 in select Mississippi counties. The program, which began 30 years ago, partners with local groups to fund mailings & families sign up online for the books.  Hattiesburg American

HEALTH NEWS

  • Forrest Health’s Spirit of Women program will host an event featuring Kelli Finglass (director of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders) on Tuesday, October 7 at 11:30 a.m. at Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg. She will share uplifting stories (focused on empowerment and connection) during a lunch session.  WDAM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mississippi State will pay $2.275 million for its 2025 nonconference football games. The team will pay $400,000 to Arizona State, $475,000 to Alcorn State, and $1.4 million to Northern Illinois—while no payment will be exchanged with Southern Miss for their game in Hattiesburg on Aug. 30 at 11 a.m.—as part of a prior agreement.  Hattiesburg American
