  • In Ward 5, residents formed the Community Action Team to fix streetlights, clear debris — and work with city leaders on problems like housing, roads and poverty. The group began monthly meetings with the mayor’s staff on July 17 so that local voices were heard.  WDAM
  • South 28th Avenue Baptist Church hosted its annual back-to-school bash on Saturday, July 19, handing out backpacks and school supplies to students from local districts and providing food and a bouncy house. Church leader Picasso Nelson said the event helped the community and plans to distribute more supplies next year—adding extra support for families in need.  WDAM
  • Organizations gathered at Twin Forks Rising in Hattiesburg to honor civil rights leader John Lewis by providing help for those in need—organizers set up a blood drive and food drive while Carley Gilbert from Healing Hunger raised funds to create 150 meal boxes for Fieldhouse for the Homeless.  WDAM

  • Hattiesburg police are searching for a suspect after a vehicle was burglarized on the 100 block of Doleac Drive on June 22 between 9:30 p.m. and 11:59 p.m., and anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers.  WJTV

  • Jones County Emergency Management urges residents to prepare an emergency kit for every family member—including kids and pets—and ensure vehicles are ready for evacuation. The agency recommends repacking kits every six months to keep supplies current for severe weather and hurricane season.  WDAM

  • Hattiesburg High basketball coach Ernie Watson retired after 15 years, marking the end of an era for the team—administrators plan to start searching for his replacement soon.  WDAM
