An adolescent was taken to a hospital after being hit by a vehicle near the 100 block of Harrell Street in Hattiesburg at 3:30 p.m. on Friday—first responders provided aid and the driver remained on scene as investigators reviewed the incident.

Mississippi’s Institutions of Higher Learning put a new Academic Responsibility policy in place at the eight public universities to comply with House Bill 1193 + the law bans DEI offices, mandatory training and diversity statements while a Non-Discrimination policy awaits public comment.

Mississippi has six venomous snake species, including the copperhead, cottonmouth, eastern diamondback rattlesnake, pygmy rattlesnake, timber rattlesnake and coral snake.

Experts say the eastern diamondback rattlesnake is potentially deadliest because it is large and can inject a high volume of venom+snakebites are rare in the state.

Dr. LaWanda Baskin, executive associate dean at USM, was appointed by Governor Tate Reeves to serve on the Mississippi Board of Nursing and was sworn in on July 18 in Ridgeland.
