ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ An adolescent was taken to a hospital after being hit by a vehicle near the 100 block of Harrell Street in Hattiesburg at 3:30 p.m. on Friday—first responders provided aid and the driver remained on scene as investigators reviewed the incident. WDAM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Mississippi’s Institutions of Higher Learning put a new Academic Responsibility policy in place at the eight public universities to comply with House Bill 1193 + the law bans DEI offices, mandatory training and diversity statements while a Non-Discrimination policy awaits public comment. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mississippi has six venomous snake species, including the copperhead, cottonmouth, eastern diamondback rattlesnake, pygmy rattlesnake, timber rattlesnake and coral snake. - ➤ Dr. LaWanda Baskin, executive associate dean at USM, was appointed by Governor Tate Reeves to serve on the Mississippi Board of Nursing and was sworn in on July 18 in Ridgeland. She will serve until June 30, 2027—helping to review policies and maintain high standards in nursing practice across the state. WLBT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Vitalant held its annual Blood Bowl—an event at several Pine Belt locations that collected over 300 units of blood—to help local hospitals. Brandon Rodgers said donors should keep giving blood after the drives to prevent shortages. WDAM

- ➤ Southern Miss announced its seven-member M-Club Hall of Fame class on July 17 with inductees from football, basketball, baseball and track, including Deke Adams, Alexis Hall Adams, Chris Clark, Tracy Lampley, Jeremy Parquet, Johnny Vitrano and Raquel Washington — the inductees will be honored at a banquet on November 14 and during the football game against Texas State on November 15 at M.M.
