  • Hattiesburg has seen a boost in foot traffic this summer as Serengeti Springs waterpark attracts visitors from cities like Jackson, New Orleans, and Mobile — local attractions like the Convention Commission Center, Saenger Theater, the Sixth Street Museum District and the zoo have also reported increased numbers.  WDAM

CRIME NEWS

  • Hattiesburg police are searching for a suspect after a 28-year-old woman was shot in her neck on Crowder Street at 11:15 p.m. on July 6—she was taken to a local hospital and remains in stable condition.  WJTV
  • After a weekend of violent crime, the Hattiesburg Police Department announced a curfew for minors—anyone under 18 must be off the streets by 11 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and by midnight on Friday and Saturday, with penalties for both the youth and their parents.  WDAM
  • Authorities charged teenagers in connection with a shooting — investigators continue their review — that occurred Sunday night in Hub City.  WDAM
  • Hattiesburg Police Chief Hardy Sims said a recent series of violent youth incidents prompted increased patrols—more enforcement of curfew laws and parental accountability—with local and state agencies joining forces to prevent further violence.  Hattiesburg American
  • Hattiesburg police and county law enforcement have united to address youth violence by strictly enforcing a curfew for those younger than 18—curfew hours are 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday—with violators and their parents facing detention and legal consequences, while eight teenagers are already held in Forrest County Jail.  WDAM
