- ➤ On Sunday, Nathaniel and Raquel Revaula became the new Hattiesburg Salvation Army corps officers after decades of ministry work that spanned Mobile, Nashville, and Frankfort. The couple said their appointment built on work that began in the Philippines and will see three of their children join in ministry through music to serve the community. WDAM
- ➤ The Downtown Hattiesburg Association and Petal Area of Chamber of Commerce will team up for the Star-Spangled Celebration on the River at Chain Park in Hattiesburg and Petal River Park on July 3 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.—live music, kids' activities, food vendors and fireworks at 9:00 a.m. will be featured while offsite parking with shuttle service will be available due to limited onsite parking. - ➤ Local baker Campbell Wood, 19, started her business, Campbell’s Cakery, last year and visits markets weekly—she plans to grow her venture into a brick-and-mortar bakery that hires people with special needs. - ➤ Mississippi will raise its gas tax by 3 cents a gallon and cut the grocery tax by 2% starting July 1—changes designed to support road maintenance and lower grocery costs. Additional laws will allow direct wine shipment with a 15.5% tax, ban kratom sales to those under 21, require hospitals to stock rape kits, and impose new turkey stamp fees for hunters.
