EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Mississippi Miss Hospitality Program announced record scholarships for the 2026 competition. Contestants competing in Hattiesburg from July 17-18 will vie for over $105K in awards — including $32,500 cash, a $10K top prize, and scholarships named for longtime supporter Bonnie Warren.  WLBT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pearl River Community College claimed its second national championship in baseball on Saturday when left fielder Ethan Gardner hit a walk-off RBI single in extra innings to lift the Wildcats to a 4-3 win over South Mountain.   • Little Rock coach Chris Curry returned to Hattiesburg for the 2026 Regional, marking a homecoming inspired by mentor Scott Berry; his team beat Southern Miss on Friday and Jacksonville State on Saturday and now is set for a super regional berth.  WDAM
  • Pearl River CC baseball beat South Mountain 4-3 on Saturday in the NJCAA Division II championship game, capturing its second national title and finishing the season at 50-11.  WDAM
  • Southern Miss Baseball lost to Virginia 15-11 in a 10-inning game at Pete Taylor Park on May 30. Coach Christian Ostrander said the loss ended the season for the Golden Eagles — eight seniors played their final game as fans look forward to a fresh start next season.  Hattiesburg American
  • Brayden Randle delivered a walk-off single in a 14-inning game at the Lincoln Regional on May 30 that gave Ole Miss a 7-6 win over Arizona State and moved them into the winners bracket to face Nebraska.  Hattiesburg American
  • Southern Miss ended its season with a 15-11 loss in a 10-inning game against Virginia Saturday in the NCAA Hattiesburg Region, and the long contest tested the team's stamina until the final inning.  WDAM
