  • After Monday's heavy rains flooded several roads, county crews reopened 29 roads Tuesday — Luther Carter Road stayed closed until repairs were completed Wednesday morning, and officials installed culverts to guide water while warning drivers to obey signage as further rain might cause additional flooding.  WDAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mississippi chief economic development official Bill Cork posted on his blog on May 25 where he said he agrees with parts of Pope Leo’s AI encyclical but defends local tech investments that boost the state’s data center economy (he stressed the need to balance innovation with worker protection).  Hattiesburg American
  • Hattiesburg crews are clearing drains and ditches after heavy rain left standing water in some areas today. Mayor Toby Barker urges residents to report any drainage issues + stay alert as more rain is expected.  WDAM
