- ➤ Mississippi school districts have lost nearly 70,000 public students since 2013 and some have seen enrollment drop by 40%, raising funding concerns and the risk of staff and school cuts when a hold-harmless provision expires in July 2027 (education leaders warn districts may need to consolidate schools). SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Southern Miss men's golf team makes its first NCAA Tournament appearance as it begins competing today at the Athens Regional at the University of Georgia Golf Course until May 20 after finishing third in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. - ➤ Mississippi State and Ole Miss will compete in the SEC Tournament in Hoover starting May 19 while Southern Miss, the Sun Belt champion, will begin postseason play in Montgomery from May 19+24. WLBT
- ➤ No. 8 Southern Miss swept the series with an 11-0 win over Georgia Southern at Pete Taylor Park-Hill Denson Field on Saturday just after 1 p.m. and earned their 40th win before traveling to Montgomery for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. WLBT
