  • Hattiesburg Cycles hosted its annual memorial ride to honor officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate, who were fatally shot in 2015. Riders cycled from the shop to the memorial site, taking time for silence and prayer while raising funds for a Pine Belt Foundation law enforcement scholarship (PBF).  WDAM
  • Letter carriers organized their 34th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday in the Pine Belt where more than 7,000 pounds of nonperishable food were collected and delivered to local pantries including Christian Services and the South Forrest County Food Pantry.  WDAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 160 graduates earned their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degrees on Saturday at the Hattiesburg campus of WCU College of Osteopathic Medicine. The new physicians will soon begin residencies & start their medical careers.  WDAM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Insurance expert Alexandra Cary says homeowners should secure roofs now ahead of hurricane season beginning June 1. Those needing repairs might call a roofer to check for loose shingles and clear gutters, as a state mitigation program (for owner-occupied homes) will launch later this year.  WDAM

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Marion High School seeks redemption in the Class 3-A South State Championship against Presbyterian Christian after a tough sweep loss two years ago. The game begins Monday at Presbyterian Christian (first pitch at 7 p.m.) and features top pitchers Bankston Walters and Kolby Stringer.  WDAM
  • Former Southern Miss quarterback Braxton attended the Saints rookie mini-camp recently — the session offered him a chance to sharpen his skills as local fans keep an eye on his potential move to the pros.  WDAM
