  • The Hattiesburg Zoo is celebrating its 75th anniversary with Zoo Tunes — a musical event held during Second Saturday. The festivities will continue as the zoo marks this important milestone.  WDAM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks said that online-only applications for private lands alligator season are now open—applications must be in by July 1. Hunters will have a season from August 29 until September 22 and those interested in public waters can apply from June 2 until June 11.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith and Sen. Angus King introduced the Save Healthcare Workers Act in Washington to impose fines and up to a 10-year prison term for assaulting hospital employees—a measure supported by multiple healthcare groups to defend workers on the job.  SuperTalk Mississippi Media
  • Today, MDOT reminded Mississippians that political signs are not allowed within the right-of-way of state highways—which includes the driving lanes, shoulders, and mowed areas—and said that illegally placed signs will be removed and held for two weeks. Candidates may pick up their signs from a local MDOT maintenance facility.  WDAM

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Pink Ribbon Fund and the University of Southern Mississippi teamed up to fill Pete Taylor Park with pink last weekend — the event raised awareness for breast and other cancers while supporting local women like Layla Dow who relied on family and faith during her fight. Layla Dow, now in her third year battling triple negative metastatic breast cancer, said the event helped boost her hope amid her ongoing treatment.  WDAM
