EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ South Central Regional Medical Center announced the selection of 10 incoming residents for its new Internal Medicine Program—these physicians will work with hospital doctors during a three-year residency beginning July 1. The hospital reviewed more than 3,000 applications and plans to open a Family Medicine program in the future. WDAM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Tate Reeves said on May 1 that if lawmakers do not pass a $7 billion budget by July 1, he will fund key state agencies—ensuring that both constitutional and other critical agencies continue to operate despite political disagreements over local projects bills. His stance puts pressure on lawmakers to resolve their differences before the deadline. Hattiesburg American

- ➤ Sixteen-year-old Daniah Baker turned her love for music into a DJ career after her cousin passed away and inspired her when she was only nine—she now DJs local events and plans to give free lessons to local kids while aiming to perform in Jamaica someday. WDAM

- ➤ University of Southern Mississippi used the mercy rule to beat Arkansas State 14-2 on Sunday at Taylor Park—marking their ninth straight win in a three-game sweep. Tucker Stockman led with four RBIs, and USM will host the University of Louisiana for a three-game series starting Friday at 6 p.m. WDAM
- ➤ William Carey University fell 9-7 to Loyola in the SSAC championship game at Rockabillys Stadium on Sunday + both teams will represent the conference in the NAIA Opening Round starting May 12. Loyola built an early lead with a 2-0 score in the first inning and pushed their advantage in the fourth while Carey could not catch up. WDAM
