- ➤ Richard Jordan, Mississippi’s oldest and longest serving death row inmate, will be executed on June 25 at 6 p.m. at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman—he was convicted in 1976 for kidnapping and murdering Edwina Marter. Mississippi Today

- ➤ A state disability rights agency announced Thursday that it will stop taking new cases because it did not receive over $700,000 in federal funds needed for five key programs—officials also imposed a hiring freeze to focus on current clients. - ➤ Hattiesburg is hosting the annual state meeting for the National Alliance on Mental Illness with a focus on crisis intervention teams — teams of law enforcement, mental health professionals and volunteers — to improve police response to mental health emergencies. - ➤ Mississippi is home to six venomous spider types including black widows, brown widows, brown recluses, yellow sac spiders, and wolf spiders that live in dark or cluttered areas and can cause serious bite reactions. Health experts advise residents to clean and seal their homes — remove clutter and check clothing for spiders to lower the risk, noting many suspected bites are caused by other issues such as infections. The tenth-ranked Crusaders earned this honor after winning a key game at the SSAC Baseball Championship while Coach Bobby Halford set a new state record and outfielder Josh Alexander was named SSAC Player of the Year.
