  • Extra Table Feeds, a local non-profit, will sell Mississippi specialty car tags on July 30 that cost about $30 with more than 60% of each sale going toward meals for hungry neighbors. The group needs 300 buyers to launch the program.  WDAM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Meta is investing $100 million as a tenant in the Compass Data Center project in Meridian, which will create at least 20 direct jobs after receiving a state-issued data center incentive certificate. The move supports Mississippi’s growing tech economy.  Hattiesburg American

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eagle Dining at Southern Miss revealed that campus Starbucks will become a Dunkin’ store in Fall after 64% of students backed the change due to a contract ending. The redesigned space will mix Dunkin’ branding with study-friendly colors + the venue will stay open until May 13.  SM2 Media
  • Southern Miss Medical Laboratory Sciences Program celebrated its 55th anniversary on April 20 with a blood drive (from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.), open house, lectures, and vendor booths with mini games at Hattiesburg. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A mobile Shred-it truck arrived Friday at USM Physical Plant to securely shred sensitive documents during Earth Week — helping faculty and residents protect their data while promoting recycling. The event, organized by the Office of Sustainability, drew over 15 vehicles.  SM2 Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith on April 29 proposed the Buying American Cotton Act to offer tax credits for companies selling American cotton products, aiming to help revive Mississippi's shrinking cotton production; the bill now awaits further review in the Senate finance committee.  Hattiesburg American
