  • A construction team broke ground Tuesday on 26 fully accessible RV spaces at Flint Creek Water Park, now named Tallulah Campground, to boost visitor sites; work is expected to finish by the end of this year.  WDAM

  • Brian Freeman, who led the district for 13 years, will retire as superintendent on June 30 — the board has named Gina Quintina Gallant, an experienced leader with more than 20 years in education, as his successor.  WDAM
  • Applications for the Hattiesburg Fire Training Academy are now open; interested candidates can submit forms online to kick off their training and build a career in fire safety + response.  WDAM

  • Mississippi state health officer Dan Edney withdrew from CDC director consideration after months of interviews, saying prayer and local support confirmed he should stay to improve state health. SPORTS NEWS

  • Mississippi high school softball ended its regular season and the MHSAA poll for player of the year is open until noon Saturday (Apr. 25). Voters may cast one vote per hour per device as stats from coaches and sports sites highlight top players for the award.  Hattiesburg American
  • Mississippi high school baseball’s regular season has ended and fans can cast their vote for player of the year from the MHSAA and MAIS season. Voting will close at noon Saturday as the playoffs are set to begin.  Hattiesburg American
