  • Timothy O'Mary, a former Navy meteorologist living in Petal, and his 15 year old daughter Angelica use their Facebook page to track tornado threats and alert people when severe weather strikes—she became interested after a 2017 tornado and now is known for her storm analysis. The duo is raising funds for a storm chasing trip to Tornado Alley to help residents reach safety after tornadoes.  WDAM

CRIME NEWS

  • Sumrall police said a Facebook post claiming a missing female officer is a scam that includes fake details and an official-looking portrait; they warn residents not to share the post.  WDAM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Hattiesburg is celebrating Earth Day on Tuesday with a giveaway at Highland Cemetery—free mulch made from recycled tree debris will be available from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. while supplies last.  WDAM

  • Mississippians vote more often than those in most states because state rules require many municipal and statewide contests to be held in odd years. Voters will return to the polls tomorrow—April 22—for runoff elections following Easter, meaning new choices come quickly after each vote.  Mississippi Today

  • Jason Cooper, a quadriplegic (C3, C4) paralyzed in a 2019 car accident, has regained his ability to walk and now works as a fitness trainer and father; he will release a documentary titled 'Adversity' this fall to share his journey from childhood to recovery.  WDAM
