COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center announced that it will move to a new space on U.S. 98 in Hattiesburg in May—expanding its services to include three forensic interview rooms, three family advocacy waiting rooms, and four dedicated mental health rooms. The center, which has served seven counties for 10 years, will hold its official ribbon cutting on October 10.  WDAM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Military chaplains and civilian pastors held the third annual Resurrection Service on Thursday at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center's historic White House lawn — the event featured early Easter messages and music by the Mississippi National Guard’s 41st Army Band — and it was open to the public.  WDAM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mississippi's State Board of Education voted to end the U.S. history test as a graduation requirement while students still must pass the history course; the change will go into effect for the 2025-2026 school year — a move meant to ease test pressure.  WDAM

SPORTS NEWS

  • The MHSAA released the schedule for the Mississippi high school baseball playoffs, showing that classes 1A-4A games began April 16 with three-game series and that the championship round will be held at Trustmark Park in Pearl — while classes 5A-7A are set to begin next week.  Hattiesburg American
  • The University of Southern Mississippi hit five home runs in an 8-1 win over Georgia State at Pete Taylor Park Thursday—pitcher JB Middleton allowed one run and struck out 12 in eight innings. The teams will meet again today at 6 p.m. to continue the series.  WDAM
  • MHSAA released its high school softball playoff brackets and schedules for the 2025 state tournament for classes 1A-4A, with rounds running from April 16 to April 21 and the championship round set at the Southern Miss Softball Complex in Hattiesburg — games for classes 5A-7A will begin next week.  Hattiesburg American
