CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy-nominated rapper Afroman will perform at Martin’s Downtown in Jackson on April 2 (doors open at 8:30 p.m.) as part of his Freedom of Speech Tour, and he will also bring his show to Brewsky’s in Hattiesburg.  WLBT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former Saucier Elementary students reunited Thursday to open a time capsule from 1976—its contents include handwritten notes, TV guides and comic books—and plan to display the items in a shadow box at the school to inspire current students.  WDAM
  • Yesterday, lawmakers at the State Capitol reached a compromise that gives public school teachers a $2,000 raise and special education teachers an additional $2,000 supplement. The bill will go to a full vote in the House and Senate on Sunday.  Mississippi Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Mississippi State Department of Health reported on Friday that the state recorded its first pediatric flu death this season. Health officials urged residents six months & older to get vaccinated to lower the risk of severe illness.  Mississippi Today

  • Mississippi Supreme Court ruled Trinidad Chambliss can play football while his appeal is pending, following an earlier injunction from Judge Robert Whitewell (which secured his spot with the Rebels for the 2026 season).  WLBT
