- ➤ Local organizations in Pine Belt helped ensure residents received free hot meals following the March 15 tornadoes; a meal event was held at a Tylertown fire station yesterday and additional services will offer meals on March 29 (10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) and March 30 (11:00 a.m.) at community sites. - ➤ Hattiesburg native Craig Wiseman was honored on Thursday when Visit Mississippi and the city unveiled a Mississippi Country Music Trail marker at Midtown Green Park—a new bandshell was also dedicated as a gift from Wiseman and the Hattiesburg Midtown Merchants Association. WDAM

- ➤ City Council hopefuls held a Candidates’ Night at the Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center on Thursday night where Ward 2 candidates Eric Boney and Carlos Wilson and Ward 5 candidates Nick Brown and Ashley Perkins spoke with voters about their plans—primary elections will take place next Tuesday while absentee voting remains open at City Hall until Saturday. - ➤ Governor Tate Reeves signed a comprehensive tax reform law that will eventually eliminate the income tax while increasing the gas tax 3 cents per gallon for the next three years—adding about 170 million dollars for MDOT projects. State leaders celebrated the changes, and discussions about further budget impacts continue. WLBT
- ➤ The City of Hattiesburg announced several downtown street closures this weekend for Eaglepalooza and HUBFEST. Main St. closed on March 27 at 7 p.m. for stage setup while additional roads will close today at 1 p.m. for Eaglepalooza and HUBFEST closures will begin at 4 a.m. Saturday—drivers should use alternate routes.
