- ➤ On March 19, the Hattiesburg Zoo said Maya, a 21-year-old jaguar with kidney disease and age-related issues, was given life-ending treatment and passed away. Maya arrived from the Memphis Zoo in 2016 and staff set aside a space for visitors to leave flowers and photos — a tribute to her long time at the zoo. SM2 Media

- ➤ Fat Cat, a popular bar near the University of Southern Mississippi, began charging an extra fee in March for guests under 21 to support income since these patrons cannot buy alcohol; the fee (which goes to performers or event hosts) applies to some events and has drawn mixed reactions from students. - ➤ Students at the University of Southern Mississippi have raised concerns about campus accessibility as they face difficulties using mobility aids at key locations like the Thad Cochran Center — Trinity Spencer said her attempt to guide her sister in a wheelchair through campus in the rain was hampered by nonfunctioning accessibility buttons, prompting calls for more regular maintenance from the university's Student Accessibility Services and Physical Plant Department.
