  • Flint Creek Water Park is upgrading cabins, campsites, and amenities for improved visitor experience. Manager Michael Clark said renovations have taken 2½ years (13 cabins and one bunkhouse updated) and a new Camp Cowboy campground is expected next month while an 18-hole disc golf course will host future tournaments.  WDAM

  • Downtown Hattiesburg is seeing a surge of new business openings — local entrepreneurs and regional chains are setting up shops downtown. The growth is expected to offer fresh opportunities for residents.  WDAM

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Thursday evening, Midtown Green hosted Mississippi Musicians Month (as part of the Backroads and Backstories series) with local artists performing and community groups assisting; it was the first large event at the venue since it opened last year (which signals quarterly shows ahead).  WDAM
  • Hattiesburg will kick off America’s 250th celebration with a free jazz concert in Midtown Green Park on Friday, March 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The Southern Miss Jazz Studio Orchestra & guest vocalists will perform patriotic renditions to mark the event.  WDAM

  • After Friday's Match Day, WCU medical students received residency placements — half joining Gulf South hospitals and some heading as far as Canada — achieving a 100% match rate.   • In March, Hattiesburg Clinic experts urged residents to get colonoscopy exams to catch early signs of cancer. Dr. Michael Goebel said starting screening at age 45 can help prevent later health problems.  WDAM

  • William Carey men's basketball coach Steve Knight retired after 44 years (the winningest college coach in Mississippi). He stepped down after a successful season, citing a recent hip surgery and a desire to spend more time with family and travel.  Mississippi Today
