GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Deputy Chief Tonieria Robinson of Lamar County Schools District police urged drivers in Oak Grove to follow school zone traffic signals after officers in nearby counties were injured, stressing that obeying these signs (like flashing bus lights) keeps both students and officers safe.  WLBT
  • Motorists in Hattiesburg will face nightly closures on U.S. 49 from West Pine Street to Country Club Road as crews begin Norfolk Southern railroad bridge repairs on Monday, Mar. 23 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday for about a month while detour routes are in place.  WDAM
  • Since 2022, the Mississippi Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund has awarded $50 million in grants that attracted $100 million in matching funds to support conservation, historic, and outdoor recreation projects statewide — including a new Leaf River boat ramp in Hattiesburg that improves access to the Pinebelt Blueway.  Hattiesburg American

HEALTH NEWS

  • State lawmakers passed House Bill 565 (Jill's Law) to require insurance coverage for biomarker testing for Alzheimer’s, cancer, and other diseases, which takes effect July 1. The law will help patients get early diagnosis without paying out of pocket.  WDAM
  • Two local sheriff's offices are competing in the Battle Between the Stars blood drive today at the Purvis Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as they work to collect blood donations for saving lives.  WDAM
  • A new state law requires insurers to cover biomarker testing for Alzheimer’s and cancer patients, an effort aimed at expanding access to crucial diagnostics. The regulation will soon guide policy updates across the state.  WDAM
