- ➤ Southern Miss dedicated its new home for the School of Criminal Justice, Forensic Science and Security on Friday morning at the Paul H. (Bud) Holmes Criminal Justice Building. The 28,000 sqft facility cost $16.6 million and provides classrooms, labs, and a courtroom. WDAM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mississippi lawmakers unanimously passed Jill’s Law, requiring state-regulated and private plans to cover Alzheimer’s biomarker testing for patients showing symptoms — the measure will take effect July 1 and help residents access early testing. WDAM
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Southern Miss released its 2026 football schedule with six home games. The Golden Eagles will open nonconference play against Alcorn State on Sept. 5 and face new and familiar opponents while Blake Anderson begins his first season as head coach. WDAM
- ➤ Southern Miss football announced its 2026 schedule on March 13. The season opens with nonconference games on Sept. 5, 12, 19 and 26 followed by conference play starting at Troy on Oct. 6, featuring matchups against Arkansas State, Louisiana and James Madison and additional opponents at home and away venues.
