- ➤ A British telephone box from 1990 was restored and now stands outside the International Center as a reminder of USM’s study abroad program (which first brought a taste of England to campus). Officials say the restored box symbolizes opportunities to explore new cultures. SM2 Media
- ➤ On March 7, the Oseola McCarty House opened as a museum in the Sixth Street Museum District to celebrate the philanthropist's legacy with interactive exhibits, murals and a washing station for kids, and it accepts visits by appointment on Wed-Fri and Sat. SM2 Media
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, the State Senate amended House Bill 1395 to boost teachers' pay by $6,000 over three years, with higher raises planned for special education and assistant teachers. The measure returns to the House for review. WLBT
- ➤ Senate lawmakers approved a $6,000 teacher pay raise on Wednesday, spreading the increase over three years with an additional $1,000 each year for special education teachers, while the House proposed a $5,000 raise. Senate chair Dennis DeBar (R-Leakesville) said the vote marked a strong step forward for educators. Mississippi Today
