  • Midtown Merchants Association appointed its first executive director, Laura Laughlin, to lead business and event growth in Hattiesburg's Midtown area, covering the corridor (between I-59, Lincoln Road, U.S. Highway 49 and Fourth Street) where development is rising.  WDAM

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Oseola McCarty House museum will open on Saturday, March 7 in Hattiesburg with guest speakers, a home tour, and a birthday cake ceremony celebrating the legacy of the late washerwoman who saved funds for scholarships. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Mississippi drivers saw gas prices hit a national average of $2.99 a gallon on Monday—up 5 cents from Sunday—raising concerns that continued U.S.-Iran conflict may lead to further increases, straining the budgets of those who commute frequently.  WLBT

  • Mississippi College and William Carey University launched a 3+3 Program that lets students earn a bachelor’s and law degree in six years, saving time and tuition while keeping future lawyers here. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is encouraging residents to hunt and eat invasive species such as feral hogs, nutria, and carp to protect native wildlife and reduce ecosystem costs while suggesting recipes like grilled fare or gumbo; hunting and fishing for these species is allowed in Mississippi.  Hattiesburg American
