- ➤ Hattiesburg Zoo now houses four juvenile spider monkeys rescued after border officials intercepted an illegal smuggling attempt using lunch boxes from Mexico. The monkeys completed quarantine and are slowly adjusting to an outdoor habitat (under guidance from zoo experts) as part of the zoo’s wildlife care program. WLBT

- ➤ Lamar Christian School held the Wood Magic Science Fair with help from the Mississippi Forestry Commission (and Mississippi State Extension Office) where students worked in groups of three at stations to learn about wood use and forest fire prevention. - ➤ Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney warned Hattiesburg residents today to be cautious of unlicensed adjusters asking for upfront payments and issuing bogus ID cards that may signal an insurance scam, advising anyone affected to contact the department immediately. WDAM
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ WDAM 7 will debut its new 30-minute program Aging Untold on Monday, Mar. 2, airing weekdays at 2:00 p.m. The program features four aging experts offering practical advice for seniors, caregivers, and families on navigating aging. WDAM
- ➤ Six Black nurses who were denied membership in the Mississippi Nurses Association in 1945 formed the Colored Registered Nurses Club, later renamed in honor of Eliza Pillars; today, the association meets monthly in Jackson and supports community service projects while awarding scholarships to nursing students.
