  • Hattiesburg’s JSU alumni hosted their 35th Annual Black History Talent-Fashion Exhibit, where local students showcased creative talents and raised $23,000 to support future educational pursuits. JSUNA said the event united generations and celebrated community achievement.  WLBT
  • Former Lanier High School basketball players Arthur Brown and Louis Tucker received rings, jackets and overdue recognition 61 years after their undefeated 43—0 season, honoring their focus on athletics during segregation. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Monday, Feb. 23, USM honored faculty and departments at its Ready For Life Champion Awards ceremony in Hattiesburg. Ten recipients received funding to support programs that give students real world job skills — a boost for career readiness.  WDAM

  • Fires are spreading due to red flag conditions across the Pine Belt today & local agencies advise residents to remain cautious as dry winds persist.  WDAM
  • A woman in Lamar County reported her porch saw flames that spread over hundreds of acres on Sunday afternoon (red flag conditions were in effect) as fire crews and volunteers worked to contain the blaze across county lines.  WDAM

FINANCE NEWS

  • MoneyLion’s study released on Feb. 22 finds that Mississippi families must earn $25.35 an hour to cover basic expenses (housing, groceries and healthcare), while many states require nearly $30, highlighting a wage gap that challenges minimum wage earners.  Hattiesburg American

  • UMMC clinics remain closed today because a cyberattack on Feb. 19 disrupted its IT systems, and elective procedures are canceled until federal teams help restore services.  Hattiesburg American
