EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawmakers are set to reconcile differing teacher pay proposals as the Senate suggests a $2,000 raise for K-12 educators and the House calls for $5,000 while Gov.-Reeves focused on school choice and workforce training in his budget proposal. Legislators must agree on one plan before sending it to the governor.  Mississippi Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South George Street Bridge in Petal will get a new culvert-style design for cars and pedestrians by early summer — a project planned to link sidewalks between Petal and Hattiesburg in the future. Mayor Tony Ducker said the work will cost about $800,000 using local tax funds.  WDAM
  • The rebuilt Petal bridge now opens a gateway for future projects after restoration work finished yesterday (Feb. 15). Officials said the project could lead to more local improvements near Petal.  WDAM
