  • Residents in New Augusta expressed worry after rats and other pets were abandoned by an alleged breeder on South Main Street last month; police are waiting on the mortgage company to secure the property.  WDAM
  • Elon Musk and xAI donated 500 power generators to help Tippah County restore power after Winter Storm Fern caused widespread outages. The first truck arrived on Feb. 2 and more will be delivered tomorrow to support fire departments in distributing the generators.  Hattiesburg American

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Piney Grove Lodge 610A (14-year donor) presented a $300 check Tuesday morning to Shenell Myers’ fourth grade class at Runnelstown Elementary School to support school supplies and other needs.  WDAM
  • Students studying EMT and paramedic courses at PRCC are using a newly renovated classroom featuring a custom-built ambulance simulator. The upgrade, funded by Accelerate Mississippi + designed to meet the local need for emergency training, supports efforts to graduate more skilled EMTs in Hattiesburg.  WDAM
  • The House passed HB 1126 Tuesday to raise public school teachers’ salaries by $5K + provide special education teachers an extra $3K, increasing base pay from $41,500 to $46,500. The bill also adjusts superintendent salaries and directs $18 million toward underperforming districts.  Mississippi Today
