EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mississippi House speaker Jason White introduced the Mississippi Education Freedom Act to expand school choice by offering Magnolia Student Accounts for private school tuition beginning in the 2027-28 school year and allowing charter schools to open across districts. HEALTH NEWS

  • Covington County Hospital and four other local hospitals will use a new Epic electronic health records system on Jan. 31 after staff finish training. The system will help providers access complete patient history to make better care decisions.  WDAM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Five Iron Golf offers indoor golf simulation with lessons, club fittings, and over 200 courses for both practice and play this winter. The venue features weekday happy hour specials and indoor golf leagues that begin Feb. 9 at its local Hattiesburg facility.  Hattiesburg American
  • Oak Grove defensive lineman Deven Robertson committed to Oklahoma football on Jan. 10 at the Navy All-American Bowl. The three-star prospect — ranked No. 14 in Mississippi — helped his team post 82 tackles, three sacks, and 12 tackles for loss during a 9-4 season.  Hattiesburg American
  • Jackson Academy’s Carson Caraway was named Mississippi’s Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year for the 2025 season on Jan. 9.
