Dr. LaWanda Baskin, executive associate dean at USM, was appointed by Governor Tate Reeves to serve on the Mississippi Board of Nursing and was sworn in on July 18 in Ridgeland. She will serve until June 30, 2027—helping to review policies and maintain high standards in nursing practice across the state.

Southern Miss announced its seven-member M-Club Hall of Fame class on July 17 with inductees from football, basketball, baseball and track, including Deke Adams, Alexis Hall Adams, Chris Clark, Tracy Lampley, Jeremy Parquet, Johnny Vitrano and Raquel Washington — the inductees will be honored at a banquet on November 14 and during the football game against Texas State on November 15 at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
An adolescent was taken to a hospital after being hit by a vehicle near the 100 block of Harrell Street in Hattiesburg at 3:30 p.m. on Friday—first responders provided aid and the driver remained on scene as investigators reviewed the incident.
